Woodville General Films is currently in production on Skylight, their short film follow-up to the award winning Dartsville. Skylight tells the story of a grandfather recounting to his six-year-old granddaughter a fateful encounter between two men that changed the course of their entire lives.

Inspired by films such as Amelie, Big Fish, and Pan's Labyrinth, Skylight brings to life the stark realism of the world as seen through the magical imagination of a six-year-old's mind.

SKYLIGHT:

Magic. The power of apparently influencing the course of events by using supernatural forces.

Supernatural. A word attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding.

How strong is love?
How strong is fear?
How well can science define the power of both?

In the pre-dawn morning a grandfather sits with his granddaughter and tells her a story. As they look over a wakening lake, he tells of a boy who once lived in this very same place. A boy who left this land after his mother's death. A boy who moved to the city with a suitcase and his mother's love, and that was enough.

The old man tells another story as well. A darker story. A story about a different boy. Who moved through the city with nothing but fear.

As blood pumps into the one boy's heart, it pumps out of the other's. And on a fateful night, in a diner, they cross each others' path. One holds a heart full of love. One holds a gun.

Sean doesn't shoot Andy, but what he does do is almost worse. He gives him his fear. The power of this darkness transfers from one to the other and it begins to spread. It spreads to Andy's wife, and to his daughter. It changes the city around him. It changes him.

And then they meet again.

In a mirror reflection of their first encounter, Andy finds himself back in the diner pointing a gun at Sean. But Andy isn't the only one who's changed. While Sean's fear grew slowly around Andy's heart, Andy's love, the light and hope he had carried since he watched his mother close her eyes, had somehow spread to Sean.

The trigger is pulled. A bullet is fired. And this is where the magic happens.

If fear can ruin a man's life, why can't love save it? Who's to say that love can't stop a bullet?

The story is told by a man on a dock to a little girl. The world of the story is the world of her imagination; the mind of a six year-old where light is lighter and dark is darker. Where animals can talk and a simple shadow can whisper your name and make your blood run cold. Where things are as cut and dry as love or fear.

This world is Skylight.
